There is a technique for everything

There’s a technique… for EVERYTHING!

In the world of the f00kster, I believe there’s a technique for everything you do in life. Everything from sports we play to walking, talking, teaching, cooking, all the way to stuff like farting. Yes, there’s a technique farting. Dan the Man or myself will be happy to confirm. If you think about the little details, there are hundreds and thousands of ways to do all these things, which makes room for certain ones to be better and more efficient than others. So to be well rounded and advance quickly in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, I think you need to be aware of the technique you are using and be able to discover how you can make it better.

Exhibit A: You see someone do a move that you like. You ask them to show you how to do it. You learn how to do it and try it, but you can never pull it off in training, while the person that taught it to you is pulling it off on the same person you tried it on! There’s obviously something in the technique you are missing that needs to be adjusted.

The hardest part is trying to figure out the difference between your way of doing a technique vs. the technique that’s working. I think a lot of people abandon a move they can’t do off the bat, blaming it on things like weight, strength, or flexibility, but most times that is not the case. Technique > Power.

Pay attention to the little details as, “the little details are by far the most important” – Sherlock Holmes
